About Us

We originally grew our first crop in early 2009 as a test to see if we could have a cash crop business in tobacco and leave the corn, rice and bean growing business to everyone else. The idea was to plant a few thousand Cuban seeds, watch them grow, dry, cure and sell in 100 pound bales. The problem was we only had eight 100lb bales in our first test year. Not enough to interest a buyer. So we found ourselves with not enough tobacco to sell to a manufacturer but enough to roll a good quality cigar. About 20,000 of them!

Our second year, 2010, was another experimental year with the same amount of production. That year’s crop is still in the curing shed. Recently we bought a tractor and retired the Ox team that pulled the plough. We will be in full production this year, 2011. We planted our third year’s crop of seeds just recently, May of 2011, and we are looking for a great season which will transform this crop into a superb smoke sometime in late 2013 early 2014. Meanwhile we have a few thousand cigars to sell you!

We spent time with Don Ricardo, the Master Blender at La Plasencia in Estel? who has created fine cigars for the likes of Casa Magna and Alex Bradley. He helped us refine our blend into a smooth, flavorful, aromatic smoke that is 67% Finca Genizaro Cuban seed and the rest Jalapa Valley Cuban seed tobacco from Estel? with either a light, creamy Connecticut wrapper or a dark and oily Habana wrapper. The binder is a high quality Indonesian leaf to control the burn and to add some strength and subtle but important aromas to the final cigar.

While our tobacco is not certified organic, Don Ricardo noticed that it burned as if it were organic. He should know, La Plesencia is one of the world’s leaders in Organic Tobacco growing. Our tobacco isn’t legally organic but we do use the farms "by products" to add a little nitrogen to our already nutrient rich volcanic soil.

Thank you for considering Finca Genizaros Cigars as an addition to your humidor. You, your smoking buddies and your clients will not be disappointed.

From us to you,
Los Dos Gringos,
Calvin Jones and John-Marc Gallagher
